Today, Google released a series of PDF reports that use their tracked location data to  " chart movement trends over time by geography [and] across different categories of places". Report contents Reports can be downloaded for a specific country/region (currently 131 are supported). Within the report, time series charts display mobility trends (% compared to baseline) across 6 location categories. The date range available for the first round of reports are Feb 16 2020 - March 29 2020. Screenshot of report contents. However, I noticed that South Korea only had the country-level overview. Within the report, it's noted that a region will be left out if there aren't statistically significant levels of data available. Also, one country that does not have a report at all is China. What is Side by Side? A project where I'll remake my Data Studio visualizations in Tableau Why? Google Data Studio is the first data visualization software I learned to use and I found it easy to pick up. However, I know that Tableau has a larger community and recognize that Tableau has many features that Data Studio doesn't support. I have tried to make visualizations purely in Tableau but found it challenging to master the interface. I'm using this Side by Side series as an opportunity to learn Tableau. Day 11 - Odaiba day I left with my friend in the morning around 9AM and headed towards Odaiba. I stopped by first at Teamlab Planets. I liked the exhibition - especially the velvet lined walls- but went through it really quickly in 30-40 minutes even though I did take pictures! The only exhibit I missed there was Cold Life. For lunch, I went to Venus Fort and headed to Teamlab Borderless afterwards. I spent a lot of time at Borderless and kept going in circles in the beginning. Some rooms made me really dizzy and I used the waiting areas to lie down for a minute. I think it was good to experience Borderless once, but I personally wouldn't go back again. The Forest of Lamps was my favourite room though and I thought the Mirrorless world got inspiration from Yayoi Kusama's infinity rooms. Earlier this year, I created one of my first Makeover Mondays on Spacewalks . This post walks through my data preparation steps and considerations I made while creating the visualization. Preparing the data set 1. Examine the data set for completeness  I sorted each column to find missing data. The Spacewalkers column had some "n/a" fields so I filled in these values manually. 2. Add extra information to data set I wanted to add the nationalities of the Spacewalkers and countries of the spacesuits to the data set.  For the nationalities, I used a vlookup to append the data based on the name. However, I did have to be careful about different name spellings used in the data set compared to Wikipedia .  As for the spacesuits used in a spacewalk - I entered this manually based on the footnote symbols in Wikipedia . American spacesuits and Russian spacesuits were used depending on where the mission took place.  3. Final check I recreated the ori...

Day 4 - Kyoto Arrival I finally had a decent sleep at my friend's house. I left early to catch the Shinkansen at Shinagawa. It turned out to be a good idea since I had free time and wasn't stressed. I did have to deal with rush hour traffic on the Yamanote line and had the experience of being pushed on the train by fellow passengers. Honestly though, it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined it to be - probably because I was warned about the traffic beforehand. I also finally learned to take my time and seek out elevators in the train stations. The shinkansen ride was nice - I think I saw Fuji but not completely sure as it was cloudy. Although the window seat was booked by someone else, no one showed up so I had 2 seats to myself. It was interesting to see the train culture too - for example, the train staff bow when they enter and exit each train car.
